AIDA SKRIPNIKOVA OF U.S.S.R

“Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering” Hebrews 13:3

Aida Skripnikova, a young woman was distributing small cards with poems on them. Each poem declared the love and joy she had from knowing Jesus as Lord and Saviour. For this, she was arrested. She boldly testified that the society whic the communists were building, could never be just as they themselves were unjust. When she was released, she went straight to work for her underground church. Because of her beauty, boldness and determination, she was labeled, “a pirate from the house of prayer”, by the Communist newspaper. By the age of 27, she was facing her fourth prison term. She did not waver but being in prison increased her love for God’s Word and its importance to her faith. A gospel of Mark was smuggled in to her in prison. The guards were alarmed and searched the whole camp. During the second search, they found it and she was punished for this to spend ten days and nights in a solitary cell. Then she got a whole of New Testament and the prison authorities searched for it, the Lord helped her. Many other prisoners also helped her hide the Book. Once the guard showed him a food parcel and the next time ten packages from Norway, but she was given them because she did not deny Jesus Christ. She said that she was able to endure the hardships in prison because of the many prayers around the world. We are to have empathy for those in prison especially for Christians imprisoned for their faith.
