Faith in Action

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.(Hebrews 11 : 1)

The beginning point of faith is believing in God’s character. The end point is believing that God will do what He says. When we believe that God will fulfill His promises even though we don’t see, we demonstrate true faith. In 19th century, many places in North Nigeria faced acute draught. The tribal people tried all means of worship for rain but in vain. A missionary from Sudan, Thomas-de-kom and an African pastor held a meeting there to pray for the rain. After Sunday Service, when the Church bell rang, the meeting started and people of all religions gathered there. Christians who had faith in God’s promise, brought umbrellas. The missionary Thomas asked why they had brought umbrellas. They replied,”You had said: Those who believe God answers prayers should attend. We believe God will answer our prayer for rain. So we have brought umbrellas!”. When the prayer time came, they prayed earnestly one after another. While they were praying, they heard the sound of thunder and heavy showers of rain poured. They believed in the miracle working Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is alive and we need not fear. Fear and doubt see the obstacles but faith sees the opportunity. In the midst of troubling situations, Jesus’ words to us are,”Be of good cheer. It is I; don’t be afraid” (Matthew 14:27)

“Dear Lord, let us dispel our anxiety and put our faith in You. Let me have real faith in You, that you are the answer to my anxiety and receive Your solution and blessing. In Jesus’ Name I pray”—Amen.
