We walk by faith

For we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5 : 7)

In 1998 The Blackpool Tower authorities first opened “The Walk of Faith” at the top. Constructed to give people the illusion of walking on air, “The Walk of Faith” is a platform of laminated glass at the top of a 385-foot tower in Blackpool, England. It was originally made of two sheets of laminated glass, of two inches thickness and weighed half a tonne. The ‘Walk of Faith’ can withstand the weight equivalent to five baby elephants. An Associated Press photo showed a Woman at the edge of the invisible walkway, fists clenched against her face, trying to summon the courage to take a step. She had been told the platform was safe but she was still afraid. Sometimes we feel the same way about our circumstances in life, perhaps serious health problem. It is encouraging to note Apostle Paul’s familiar words in 2 Corinthians 5:7, “We walk by faith, not by Sight”. Paul was not afraid to die because he was confident of spending eternity with Christ. Of course, facing the unknown and leaving loved ones hurt deeply and cause us anxiety. But, if we believe in Jesus Christ, we can share Paul’s hope and confidence of eternal life with Christ. For those who believe in Christ, death is only a prelude to eternal life with God. While eternal life is a free gift given on the basis of God’s Grace (Ephesians 2:8,9), we have to give an account of how we have lived in this earth and we will be judged accordingly by God.

“Dear Lord, You want us to walk by faith, because our eyes can be deceived. Our walk of faith can be challenging, but because You are Powerful and OmniPresent God, we can step out in confidence today. In Jesus’ Name I pray”—Amen.
