STRENGTH IN THE SCRIPTURE

September 13, 2016

” Jesus answered,” It is written: Man does not live on bread alone but on every Word that comes from the Mouth of God ” Matthew 4:4.
Jesus was able to resist all of the deevil’s temptations because He not only knew Scripture but also obeyed it. Ephesians 6:17 says that God’s Word is a sword to use in Spiritual Combat. Knowing and obeying the Bible Verses is an important step in helping us resist the devil’s attacks and gaining strength. The famous evangelist Dr. Billy Graham won many souls through his sermons. The secret of this success is that he used Scripture in his sermons. If he preaches for twenty minutes, he would quote from the Bible and would say,” The Word of God says “, two hundred times. A Godly man Dr.Henry was seriously affected by a disease. He happened to read Zephaniah 3:17,” The Lord your God is with you,He is mighty to save “. He put his full trust in the Mighty Lord, who can save him and give him strength. He repeated that Bible Verse often with full hope and that gave him Divine healing and strength. After that, he lived for another twenty five years. Learning the Scripture, gives us health and strength.Scriptures are life to those who find them and health to a man’s whole body.Keeping God’s Word in our hearts, is a deterrent to sin and this alone should inspire us to memorize Scripture. But, simple memorization alone will not give us strength and keep us away from sin; we must also put Scripture to work in our lives for gaining strength.
” Dear Lord, when I am weak and weary, let me read and take in Your Words and be refreshed and strengthed. In Jesus’Name I pray “.–Amen.

STRENGTH IN THE NAME OF THE LORD

” You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the Name of the Lord Almighty ” 1Samuel17:45.
In the days of the Exodus, most of the Israelites had been afraid to enter the promised land because of the giants living there. When Goliath, over nine feet tall haunted Israel’s soldiers, they saw only a giant who had faith in his physical strength and the strength of his weapons. David, who had experienced the abundant strength in the Name of the Lord, however, saw a mortal man defying Almighty God. He knew he would not be alone when he faced Goliath; God would fight with him. David bravely came against Goliath in the Name of the Lord Almighty and defeated him in that battle. The Lord was his strength and shield. ” The Spirit of the Lord came upon Samson in power, so that he tore the lion apart without any weapon as if he might have torn a young goat. Unusual physical strength was given to him by the Spirit of the Lord. Samson did not seem to be affected in anyother ways than increased physical strength. The Philistines preferred to humiliate Samson by gouging out his eyes and making him grind grain. Inspite of Samson’s sinful past,God answered his prayer and gave him abundant strength to kill many more when he died than while he lived. At times, we too lose strength and feel very weak. During that time, it would be better to utter this Verse in Philippians 4:13 again and again ” I Can Do Everything Through HIM Who Gives Me Strength “. ” The Name of the Lord is a Strong Tower; the righteous run to it and are safe ” Proverbs 18:10.
” Dear Lord,Your Living Presence is my greatest joy. Let Your Radiant Presence help me grow in strength, grace and glory. In Jesus’Name I pray “.–Amen.
